As the NBA playoffs approach, one of the most highly anticipated first-round matchups is set to take place between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers. This rematch between two Western Conference powerhouses promises to be a thrilling battle between two teams with championship aspirations.
The Dallas Mavericks, led by superstar Luka Dončić, have had a strong season, finishing with a record of 50-32 and securing a guaranteed playoff berth behind an impressive post-trade-deadline run. Dončić, widely regarded as one of the best young talents in the league, has been the driving force behind the Mavericks’ success.
This season, he got plenty of help from Kyrie Irving, though, who just wrapped up an impressive campaign for his first full season in Dallas.
Using the trade deadline to their advantage, the Mavs have built an impressive supporting case for their new superstar duo, featuring strong role players such as Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, and P.J. Washington.
On the other side of the court, the Los Angeles Clippers enter the playoffs with high expectations after acquiring former MVP James Harden at the start of the season. Joined by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers possess one of the most formidable trios in the league.
Through an absolutely insane payroll, L.A. also bolsters one of the deepest rosters in the league, and they’ll have plenty of depth behind their superstar triumvirate in Russell Westbrook, Norman Powell, and the rest of the Clippers supporting cast.
This matchup between the Mavericks and the Clippers will be the third playoff battle between Dončić and L.A.’s star wings, Leonard and George. The Clippers won both of the first two rounds, but this time the Mavs have Kyrie Irving to help balance things out.
One of the key storylines of this series will be the battle between Dončić and Leonard, two of the most dynamic players in the league. Dončić will look to showcase his playmaking ability and scoring prowess against Leonard’s suffocating defense, while Leonard will aim to assert his dominance on both ends of the floor.

The Mavericks vs. Clippers moneyline -125 being hammered by 84.6% of the betting public. |
The Mavs undoubtedly have the best player in the series in Dončić, and Irving’s recent play might give them the top two talents in the match-up. L.A. might very well have the next four or five players, though. The Clippers also probably have the edge in coaching, as Tyronn Lue is a much more proven play caller than Jason Kidd.
